MyDATA is your business mirror at the Greek tax authority. Everything you issue and receive is recorded there, and when your data does not match your counterparties’ data, discrepancies appear. A discrepancy is not a penalty, but it is the first thing an auditor looks at.
What a discrepancy is
A discrepancy exists when a document appears differently, or not at all, on one side of the transaction. For example, your supplier transmitted an invoice and you did not classify it as an expense, or the VAT amount differs.
The most common mistakes
- invoices that were not transmitted, or were transmitted late
- the wrong tax number for a customer or supplier
- the wrong document type, or the wrong income or expense classification
- credit notes not linked to the original invoice
- cancellations made in the software but not in myDATA
- utility bills and bank charges left unclassified
How they are corrected
Your own mistake
If the error is in a document you issued, it is corrected by issuing a linked document, not by deleting and starting again. The method depends on the type of error and on whether the customer has already classified it.
The supplier’s mistake
If the supplier did not transmit the invoice or transmitted it incorrectly, ask for a correction in writing. If that does not happen, there is a procedure for you to transmit the data yourself as the recipient, as the tax authority provides.
The monthly check that saves you
The most effective habit is to check discrepancies every month, before the VAT return. That way:
- mistakes are fixed while they are few and recent
- the VAT return agrees with the myDATA data
- at year end there is no pile of open items
Why it matters now
With electronic invoicing and the connection of cash registers, the tax authority sees differences ever faster. MyDATA data is also used to pre-fill returns and to select businesses for audit. A business with many unexplained discrepancies stands out.

Frequently asked questions
Do discrepancies in myDATA mean a penalty?
Not automatically. They are, however, an indicator the tax authority examines, so they should be corrected in time.
My supplier did not transmit the invoice. What do I do?
Ask in writing for it to be transmitted. If that does not happen, there is a procedure to transmit it yourself as the recipient.
Can I delete a wrong invoice?
Usually not. The correction is made with a linked document, such as a credit note, depending on the case.
How often should I check myDATA?
Ideally every month, before the VAT return, so errors are fixed while they are recent.
