Housing allowance: eligibility and how to apply
The housing allowance (επίδομα στέγασης) is a monthly rent subsidy from OPEKA for households renting their main home. Each application covers 6 months.
Amounts and main criteria
- €70 a month for a one-person household, +€35 for each additional member, up to €210.
- Annual income up to €7,000 for one person, +€3,500 per additional member, up to €21,000.
- Real estate up to €120,000 (+€15,000 per member, up to €180,000) and savings up to €7,000 for one person.
- Legal and permanent residence in Greece for the last 5 years (12 years for non-EU citizens).
Step by step
- Electronic lease — Make sure your lease is declared and valid on myAADE.
- Electricity account — The electricity contract must be in your name or a household member’s.
- Open the platform — opeka.gov.gr → «Επίδομα Στέγασης» → «Ηλεκτρονικές Υπηρεσίες», with Taxisnet credentials.
- Fill in the application — Household members with AMKA, and IBAN.
- Submit — Keep the receipt.
Note: the allowance is not renewed automatically. After 6 months you need to apply again.
Note: single-parent families and households with unprotected children apply only through their municipality (Community Centre).
